New Years Eve in St Martin

12/10/2012 - By Ted

St Martin is a fun destination and  happening (and clothing-optional) Baie Orientale (Orient Beach) has full-service beach bars that offer not only food, but also beach chairs and umbrellas, live music, boutiques, massages, parasailing, jet ski rentals, kiteboard instruction, and more. Waïkiki Beach (tel. 590/87-43-19; www.waikikibeachsxm.com) has fabulous parties and beach lounges, plus a restaurant and snack bar --

For those of you lucky enough to be on island for New Year's Eve, you are in for a treat New Years Eve is a very lively night in St. Martin and there are many options to choose from, so here are some ideas on where you can spend your New Year’s Eve during your St Martin Holiday Vacation.

On New Year's eve, Orient Beach features one of the
biggest fireworks displays in the Caribbean. Check out this Youtube video.   Guest can enjoy a fabulous beach front (under cover) dinner party at Wakiki Beach Bar for $200 Euros per person (food included/ drinks extra) starting at 8 PM. Reservations required.  After dinner there is a huge beach party with music and fireworks called the Mega Party.  If the cost of dinner and entertainment exceeds your budget, just go to the beach party for $20 PP.

Palm Beach is the newest fine dining restaurant on Orient Beach.  It is just down the beach from Boo Boo Jams which is closed due to a serious fire in 2012.  Here New Year's eve dinner is $150 per person.

While the French side is more quiet on New Years Eve, there will be many nice restaurants having special dinners & parties.

If I were staying near Orient, I would check out L'Astrolabe or Cafe Plantation for fine dining and perhaps music.

If I were staying near Grand Case, I would look into one of the many fine dining restaurants along the blvd. Use this link to see a Trip Advisor listing.

With live music being the unknown..depending on where you might be staying on the French side you might consider: (Be sure to check to find out if they are doing a special menu).

In Marigot:, my favorite is Tropicana, but I doubt they will have music. Perhaps the Marina Port Royale in Marigot will have music and there are bars & clubs along the Port for people watching and music. Use this link for a video of the Marina.

Grand Case: Le Pressoir, Spiga ;

Cul de Sac: Le Ti Bouchon

Last year, they had a great fireworks display on New Years Day over Fort Louis in Marigot...not on New Years Eve--

In case you missed the fireworks in St Martin last year use this link

I suggest checking the local newspapers for New Years Eve events. There will be much going on in Simpson Bay and Maho.  To find out what's on during your stay, get the Thursday edition of The Daily Herald, which runs an "Out and About" section and lists of upcoming events.

Each New Year's Eve residents and visitors alike flock to Philipsburg -- the capital of St. Maarten -- to view a massive fireworks display over Great Bay. Get there early to claim a spot on the boardwalk, a.k.a. The Great Bay Beach Promenade. The fireworks start at midnight, but allow time to stroll the streets of the town first, grab some festive swag, duff a cold Heineken, and indulge in some of the great restaurants before the show begins at midnight!
