St Martin Update

1/27/2019 - By SMRC

Surviving the largest Atlantic hurricane on record has been a challenge for all including thos who live and work on the island and those who work to send guests to the island.

The island has recovered from Hurricane Irma with approximately 260+ restaurants, many excursions, shops, grocery stores, gas stations, banks, etc. (mostly on the Leeward/Caribbean side of the island), fully operating. The beaches are clean and gorgeous! The island is beautifully lush and green with much of the vegetation grown back. Visitors enjoy a very welcoming atmosphere, friendly service, and no crowds (yet!)! It almost felt like the island would have been about 20 or so years ago... a quiet tropical paradise with amazing beaches and great food!  We would be happy to discuss over the phone if you’re interested in an update. 800 480 8555.

The beach and village of Orient Bay is clean and beautiful! Much work has been done throughout the village... Bikini Beach, KaKao, and Kontiki Beach restaurants are open! The remaining “5 stars” of Orient Beach (Coco’s and Waikiki) should open by spring or summer 2019... and there are plenty of restaurants open in Orient Bay Village: Sao Asian Factory (formerly Le Table d’Antoine), La Voile Blanche, Cote Plage, Little Italy, Le Petit Bistrot, Sun Beach, Tai Chi, La Rhumerie, Cafe Plantation, Le Noon, Café Alamanda, Perch Lite, and Chez Leandra. Le Piment and L’Astrolabe. Petit Casino grocery is brand new and open for business!

GEBE, the Dutch side electric and water co. is reporting 22% less revenues since Irma and is losing $1 million per month.

Less than 50% of island hotel rooms are open and, having been harder hit, slower recovery occurring on the French side.

But each month shows improvement and places that reopen are bigger and better than ever.  It's a great time to visit with many condos and villas available in addition to the hotels that are open.  Sun, sand and azure waters await.
